What is Vig?

Vig (vigorish or juice) is the commission sportsbooks charge. When both sides of a market are -110, the implied probabilities add up to more than 100%, giving the book an edge.

Example

Lakers -110 vs Warriors -110:

  • Each side has 52.4% implied probability
  • Total: 104.8% (4.8% vig)
  • True odds with no vig: both sides +100
  • True probability: 50% each

Why It Matters
